4.1 Finish & Recovery

The finish and recovery areas are extremely important as this is where we service the participants and look after them post-race. These roles are fast-paced due to the large number of people moving through the area and require people who can work well under pressure.

Lesson 1: Finish/recovery

– Handle food and drink with gloves on at all times and ensure your preparation space is clean at all times.
– Layout food and drink in an efficient way on the tables to allow you to complete refills easily.
– Ensure the water tubs are full of fresh/clean water at all times (if it is windy watch out for grass blowing).
– Congratulate participants on completing the event.
– Ensure athlete receive their recovery food and drinks and continue moving through the area to guarantee a backlog does not occur.
– Monitor for excessive exhaustion in participants to ensure we meet our duty of care.
